The trade-off is that every zone depends on that one outdoor unit, and a small head on a large condenser can run less efficiently at light loads. For a single problem room, a one-to-one system is usually simpler. For three or four rooms, multi-zone often makes more sense.
Longevity depends less on the badge than on three things we see here constantly: a clean install with leak-free flares, a drain that stays clear, and how much salt air the outdoor unit breathes.
